ZORASHTRIAN BANK
SURAT

DESIGN FOR PEOPLE:

The main branch of the Zoroastrian Cooperative Bank in Surat had to go beyond the conventional banking layouts in order to make an impact that appealed to the people. The Chairwoman invited a fresh perspective and we took the opportunity to make it engaging for the bank employees as well as its customers. People love to observe other people... it’s the way our psyche was designed. That became our inspiration as we planned the interactive octagonal layout, where when the numbers got intense, they had a friendly face to meet.

POWER OF LIGHT:

Located in a commercial complex, the only source of natural light the bank received was from the glass doors at the entrance. The practicality of the task lights in the false ceiling was contrasted with hanging lights that were suspended on either side of the seating arrangements designed for the customers. The play of lights in the false ceiling levels nurtured a comforting ambience for the users, as they set about to carry out their business along the familiar patterns of the banking system.

THE INVIGORATING ENVIRONMENT:

In close proximity to the railway station, the bank had the ideal vantage point of a bustling main road. The entrance was accentuated with a Cuddapah cladding that had the brand name projected with an emphasis. A warmth is brought to a space when designed in consonance with natural materials. Planters on either side of the seating arrangements for customers were finished in Cuddapah. The use of plants like the Areca palm and snake plant doesn’t only foster a fresh and a healthy vibe but are also easy on maintenance in a commercial setting.
