FARMHOUSE
LONAVLA

DESIGN FOR PEOPLE:

The site that sat along the foothills had a terrific view capturing nature. With a plot adjoining to their existing farmhouse being purchased, the client had a requirement that emphasized a design that reflected their existing farmhouse. To bring it together into a harmonious whole, the floor plan took inspiration from the curved staircase and a material palette that was similar to the existing farmhouse externally. Internally, the farmhouse weaved a charm with antique Parsi furniture laid out in an austere interior. The fire bricks that took the curve of the staircase with solid wood steps, became the focal point of the interior.

POWER OF LIGHT:

: While taking a 3-hour drive from South Mumbai to Lonavla, don’t we all look for the same things? Traveling purposefully away from bustle of a busy city, the leading professionals wanted a home away from home, that connected them immediately with the landscape of their surroundings. The house designed opened their full height glass sliding doors to the greenery that encompassed them. The finned glass opening along the staircase mediated the rays of the light to flood the space below without bringing in a direct glare.

THE INVIGORATING ENVIRONMENT:

When we stood at the site and looked up at the hills that surrounded us, we thought of a wide balcony that jutted out, to make every conversation on the deck mingle with serenity. All the sliding doors that opened a maximum of the façade onto the deck overlooked greenery. Built on a contour that was higher to the existing farmhouse, the garden stepped down to merge the two plots. An outdoor seating built in concrete became the ideal party nook along a temple tree planted in the inbuilt planters.
